MIRNEWS.272 11 SEPTEMBER 1995 Soyuz-TM21 made a safe landing in Kazakhstan. The S-TM21 with on boad the crew of the 19th Main Exp. to MIR, Solovyov and Budarin, landed at 302KM NE of Arkalyk on 11.09.1995 at 0652UTC. At 0330UTC the ship separated from the MIR-station. This took place outside our range over Siberia. At 0556UTC the engines of the ship started to begin the de scent. At 0601UTC the engines stopped. Solovyov reported the progress of the descent. At 0626UTC on an altitude of 154KM the lifecompartment and the engineblock had been shot away to burning in the atmosphere. After that separation the ANAN- recovery beacon could be monitored. At 0631UTC the S-TM21 entered the dense layers of the atmosphere. The signals from S-TM21 ceased. Until that moment the communications from S- TM21 came in via MIR and Altair. At 0636UTC MIR and S-TM21 were out of range of Altair and the modulation from Altair stopped. S-TM21 came down far away from the aiming point. The rescue parties found the crew in an excellent condition. If all went according to plan the crew should arrive on Chkalovo near Ts.P.K. on 11.09 at 1530UTC. Plans for the near future: 1. Soyuz-TM22, the ship now docked to the aft docking port, will not be redocked to the forward port. 2. For the launch of Progress-M29 the date 3.10.95 had been chosen. There are some problems with the supply of rockets. Possibly they have to borrow one from the V.K.S. (spaceforces) The launch will take place between 3 and 15.10.95. 3. Thomas Reiter will do an EVA of 5 hours on 20.10.95. Reiter is not only a Euromir'95 experimenter, but has also competen ces as a board-engineer. He is the first foreign cosmonaut who got that qualification. Euromir'95: Meanwhile Thomas Reiter started to execute his experiments. About this work he regularly has been in touch with his stand-in Christer Fuglesang. Reiter suffered from headaches and insomnia during the first days of his stay on board MIR. Medication solved these problems and he is fit now. Chris v.d. Berg, NL-9165/A-UK3202.
